BBC Music Ambassador Carly Paoli teams up with AmaSing to support NHS and bring thousands of children a lockdown treat with recording and video of Bill Withers

LEAN ON ME

Carly Paoli, a BBC Music Ambassador and Classic Brit Nominee, has teamed up with AmaSing, the non-profit community interest organisation, for a special recording and video performance of Bill Withers’ classic song Lean On Me.   AmaSing will be sharing the recordings on social media with organisations, families, and individuals they work with, who have been recently affected by the Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ and disappointed by the subsequent cancellation of some AmaSing local events

With the aim of keeping the arts alive, AmaSing currently work with schools, teachers and families in Cheshire, The Wirral and North Wales, but is hoping to expand its reach further around the UK in the future. Plans to stage several concerts featuring the children had to be put on hold causing disappointment to thousands of families. Schools had been preparing the shows for the past six months which were scheduled at various venues, including the Storyhouse Chester, The William Aston Hall in Wrexham and The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. One of the songs the children had been planning to perform was   Lean On Me and AmaSing came up with the idea of putting together a special recording and video of the song to keep their spirits up during these difficult times.  The public is also being invited to support the recording with donations for the NHS hospital The Countess of Chester Hospital at the same time using the link https://amasing.org.uk/team-sing/

Since ‘lockdown’ AmaSing has continued to reach out and support schools, teachers and families with online activities including singing and composing workshops.

Carly Paoli, a soprano, who in her role as a BBC Music Ambassador, has worked extensively with schools on music projects, heard about AmaSing’s work and plans on social media and offered her help.  AmaSing Creative Director Rachael Borman, who was thrilled to accept Carly’s offer commented “Carly’s involvement has made our song even more special – she is such a talented artist and I am so thrilled with the result.

The AmaSing team featured on the track with Carly Paoli are Andrew Smith, Alex Dee, James Dee, Liam Hardwick, Paul Adams, Julie Guile, Kelly Stevens from House Of Dance, Allison Riley and Sian Collinson from The Literacy Company, Una Meehan from Chester University, Sam Ryley from Canteen Create, David Wearing, Director of AmaSing and art consultant, Simon Smithies, actor and compere for AmaSing shows, Rachael Borman, Molly Johnson, Pryia Karnik, Lucy Norbury and Sophie Sterry, AmaSing young lead soloist.
